The VII International GUIDE Conference Cultural Identity in the Midst of Global Modernization: The Role of Distance Education, was held in the Central Campus in Guatemala City of the Universidad Panamericana (UPANA) the April 10-11 2014.
The VIII International GUIDE Conference Science and Technology, Management and Quality: the future of higher education in Brazil and around the world, will be held on November 19-21, 2014 at the Universidade Tiradentes (Aracaju, Brazil), leader University in Brazil for traditional and on-line education.
For the period 2014-2015, GUIDE Association will intensify its activities of organizing international events, which will serve both as a bridge between the hosting geographical area and the rest of the world, and also as an international platform for the analysis and discussion of the hottest trends in the field of online and distance education. In doing so, the Association aims at meeting the needs of its members in regions in which such conferences are not common, thus fostering new opportunities for development and knowledge sharing.
The VI International GUIDE Conference, organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Greece, will be held this year on October 3-4 in Athens, a much premeditated locale for the discussion of the poignant topic, The Global Economic Crisis and its consequences on national educational systems: Can online education contribute to overcome the crisis?
The Association GUIDE – Global Universities in Distance Learning continues to be at the forefront of higher education modernization by implementing new initiatives for supporting innovation in all of its aspects. Thanks to its huge network made up of more than 120 members coming from all over the world, GUIDE stays up to date on international issues, new ideas and potential problems especially related to the future of open and distance learning.
The 2012 IEEE International Conference on Technology Enhanced Education, held at Amrita University´s headquarters in Amritapuri, India on 3-5 January 2012, focused on the use and implementation of virtual laboratories in high schools and universities as a tool of didactic support for improving interactivity in the framework of online education. After five years from its foundation, GUIDE Association is constantly enlarging its field of action through different initiatives and strategies.
The main reference points for the GUIDE community are the international meetings which offer participants coming from all over the world the possibility to share and exchange ideas on the latest research results obtained and experimented in the field of e-learning and its branches, and to define the new strategic development guidelines during the Association General Assemblies.
GUIDE Association continues to carry out a series of project and activities focused on both regional and global priorities, providing its members with continuing professional interaction and inter-institutional cooperation. In this connection, the first edition of the GUIDE Seminar on Virtual Higher Education dedicated to Latin America has obtained considerable results in detecting current issues and trends related to the development of virtual education in the region. The next Association appointment will be the GUIDE conference 2012 which aims, in a wider perspective, at fostering the exchange among international and global actors coming from both the academic and professional field.
The successful transition to a knowledge-based economy and society worldwide can be accomplished only through an ongoing cooperation, interaction and dialogue among people and institutions with different cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
